Koskina
Koskina is a typical small, agricultural, Greek village situated about half way between the ferry port of Styra and the market town of Aliveri, in the southern part of the island of Evia.
Koskina is close to and has views of Lake Distos which is a protected site for wild birds. It also has two unspoilt, sandy and pebble beaches, which are just a 10 minute drive away, along unmade roads. There are a further 10 beautiful beaches and traditional Greek fishing villages, with local tavernas, within 35 minutes drive. In the square around the village church are a small supermarket, Kafenion, café (owned by a Greek Australian) and a taverna. A second taverna opens at weekends, serving their own home reared pork and lamb.
Koskina is well known for its local wine, and as a traditional working village, is open all year round. The village is on the main bus route from Athens (twice daily) and a chemist, butchers, ironmongers and internet café are all available in the nearby village of Krieza.
Surrounded by hills, Koskina is the perfect getaway destination, approximately 2¼ hours from Athens airport, via Aghia Marina to Styra and Oropos to Eretria ferry crossings.
