Almiropotamos
Just 15 minutes drive from Nea Styra, Almiropotamos (which means salty river in Greek) is a small charming village on the Gulf of Evia. Situated on a slope, it has winding lanes and houses with traditional slate roofs. Like many parts of Evia it is of great historical interest and palaeontologists have made several important finds here. After World War II many people left the village for Athens and Australia, but now people are returning, to renovate and restore the local houses to a very high standard.
The seaside resort of Panagia, now also known as Almiropotamos is less than 5 minutes drive from the old village, with several fish tavernas, cafes and shops clustered around the small fishing harbour. The beach stretches around the sheltered bay and joins the beautiful, long "Golden Sands" beach, which is perfect for swimming and kayaking.
Almiropotamos is a desirable, up and coming area and property prices along the coast reflect this.
