Location
Krieza
Krieza is the main village of the municipality of Dystos and home to the local 'Town Hall'. Busier than the surrounding villages, it is situated at the intersection of the main Aliveri-Karystos route and the road that leads to the picturesque fishing port of Aghii Apostoli. It boasts a large church, a high school, post office, stationers, chemist, hardware store, plumbing supplies, timber merchant, hairdressers and taxi rank, as well as the usual mini-markets, cafes, butcher, baker and tavernas.
The revolutionary leader, Nikolaos Kriezotis, who was born in nearby Arghiro, took his name from Krieza and many of the protagonists of the 1821 uprising against the Turks came from here. Surrounded by rolling hills and unspoilt countryside there are several Venetian towers in close proximity to the village. Krieza is in a very convenient location from which to explore the natural beauty of the area and the many beautiful beaches. Well served by local transport, it is about 15 minutes drive to the bustling town of Aliveri and Athens is about 2 hours away, either via the regular ferry crossings at Eretria or over the bridge at Halkida.
