Location
Aliveri
Aliveri is one of the oldest communities on Evia and a bustling market town, with the main bus station serving all the surrounding villages, with connections to Athens. Aliveri has more cafes than most towns twice its size, lively bars, several banks, supermarkets, a wide range of shops and an internet café. A traditional street market (the Liaki) is held on Saturday mornings. The free clinic, with some English speaking doctors, is situated on the outskirts of the town.
The local harbour of Karavos has been paved and improved to create a pleasant sea front with cafes and tavernas. It's also one of the few places with electric hook-ups for boats. The downside is the electricity power station, which dominates the area. For a better view, you can head around the corner to a sandy beach, which follows the coast most of the way to Amarynthos.
