Ruin
Not habitable
Zarakes (Mahala)
€ 33,000
Building approx 70 sq mts, Land approx 500 sq mts
One of just a few remaining ruins, in a beautiful old valley, close to an overgrown stream, with a view of the skyline of Zarakes village. Only 5 minutes' drive to a super sandy beach.
A narrow road winds down through the old village of Zarakes (called Mahala, which means meeting or market place in Turkish). Once abandoned, a cluster of stone buildings have been rescued from ruin and transformed into idyllic holiday homes. Surrounded by wooded mountains, full of surprises, such as the golden orioles and freshwater terrapins, this is not a project for the faint-hearted. However, if you want a completely 'out of the ordinary', incredibly atmospheric home, in a picturesque location then this is it! In order to preserve the traditional character of Mahala, all properties have to be rebuilt in local stone, with slate roofs and within the original footprint. The property was originally 2 storeys, with the first floor for the family and the ground floor for the animals and storing wine, oil, food etc. It is south west facing with beautiful views. We can recommend an experienced project manager and excellent local craftsmen.
