About Evia
Visiting Evia is like taking a step back in time. Apart from the capital, Halkida and a few market towns, most people live in traditional villages – with few mod cons. Donkeys are still used by many local farmers, pigs and fish are sold from the back of pick up trucks, crime is virtually non-existent, the people are incredibly friendly – and you can eat & drink in the local tavernas for ten euros per head.
There’s a small, established English speaking community in Southern Evia – but if you’re looking for English bars and McDonalds, Evia is not for you. If you appreciate stunning mountain scenery, abundant wildlife, beautiful rocky coves and empty beaches you’ve just found your perfect Greek island!
Another great advantage is that Evia is one of the most accessible Greek islands, all year round, thanks to a road bridge from the mainland. There are also 4 ferry crossings, all of which can get you from Athens airport to Southern Evia within 2 hours. Click location or directions to find out more.
